Commuter Rail returns to regular schedule Wednesday
All Commuter Rail Lines to Operate on a Normal Weekday Schedule Tomorrow, Wednesday February 25 Except for the Fall River/New Bedford Line
The MBTA and Keolis Commuter Services (Keolis), the MBTA’s operations and maintenance partner for Commuter Rail, announced today that all Commuter Rail lines will return to a normal weekday schedule on Wednesday, February 24 except for the Fall River/New Bedford Line. The Fall River/New Bedford Line will operate on modified severe weather schedule after the South Coast area was hit the hardest by the latest winter storm. The schedule for the Fall River/New Bedford Line is available here.
The MBTA and Keolis closely monitor weather forecasts to assess expected and real-time conditions related to scheduled service and operations. Reduced service due to weather conditions is designed to meet ridership demand and provide travel options to essential workers while limiting the exposure of Commuter Rail trains to storm conditions and providing adequate access to storm clean-up crews. Passengers should plan extra time for their travel and use caution on platforms, in parking lots, and when boarding or exiting a train.
MBTA and Keolis personnel have been deployed across the Commuter Rail network to clear snow, apply sand and salt to passenger areas, and respond to incidents. Crews were pre-positioned at key facilities and infrastructure (switches, signals, etc.) to help ensure safe operations throughout the storm. Switch heaters and snow jets have also been activated across the network to ensure normal flow of train traffic.
Riders are encouraged to subscribe to T-Alerts, download the MBTA Go app, and follow the MBTA on X @MBTA, @MBTA_CR, and @MBTA_CR_Alerts for up-to-date service information on individual trains.
Keolis Commuter Services has operated and maintained the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority’s commuter rail system, the sixth largest commuter rail operation in North America, for over ten years. KCS is a subsidiary of Keolis North America (KNA), both headquartered in Boston, and employs approximately 2,500 people throughout the region. KCS and KNA are part of Keolis Group, an innovative global leader in transit services with more than a century of passenger transportation experience and operations in 13 countries.
