FLANSBURY

Edith (Edie) Flansbury passed away peacefully at the Havencare Nursing Home in Torrington, CT on March 14, 2026 at the age of 96. Edie was born in Norwood, MA to Harry and Nora (Folan) Flansbury in 1929. She was the oldest of four children and lived most of her life in Norwood. She attended Notre Dame Academy in Boston, and she worked as a bookkeeper until her retirement. Edie took great joy in being near the shore. She took many seaside vacations to Maine and Cape Cod where she enjoyed riding her bicycle along the ocean. She eventually purchased a home on the beach in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina and initially spent winters there, later relocating year-round to South Carolina for many years.
Although Edie never had children of her own, she enjoyed time with her nieces Marie, Anne, Elizabeth, and Ruth who have fond childhood memories of staying with her and their grandmother in Norwood during summer vacations. Once they were grown, Edie traveled to visit them at their homes in California, Texas, New York, New Hampshire, and Maine. Edie was a thoughtful person who never forgot a family member’s birthday. She always sent a card and called on that special day. At Easter and Christmas, family members who shared her love of sweets looked forward to her gifts of fudge arriving in the mail. Edie loved to keep up on the lives of her nieces and nephew and their children, filling her home with their photographs and celebrating their important life events.
Edie was predeceased by her mother, her father, and her brothers Robert and Martin. She is survived by her sister Joan Dunleavey and brother in-law Philip of Connecticut; her sister-in-law Margaret Flansbury of Vermont; as well as by her nieces and nephew and their spouses – Marie McAuley (Mike), Anne Shattuck, Elizabeth Mahoney (Paul), Ruth Malone (Mark), Martin Dinne Flansbury (Loren), Kathleen Mason, and Marcia Flansbury (Corey). She is also survived by twelve great-nieces and nephews.
Edie's life will be celebrated in a funeral mass at Saint Catherine of Sienna parish in Norwood, MA at 11 a.m. on Friday March 20, 2026.
