NPD: Lock your cars
On Monday at approximately 2:00 AM, Norwood Police Officers received information regarding a stolen motor vehicle entering the town passing one of our traffic cameras. Although officers were initially unable to locate the vehicle, the information was promptly shared with surrounding communities via the radio.
During the pursuit, officers observed a pickup truck that appeared to interfere with the officers ability to catch up to the stolen car. They ran the plate and called the owner, it was determined that the truck had just been stolen in Norwood with the keys in it. The investigation indicates the suspects were in the area committing a series of crimes, including motor vehicle thefts and break-ins.
The stolen pickup truck was later recovered in Malden and processed by Norwood Police Detectives for evidence.
This incident serves as an important reminder that criminals often look for easy opportunities. Residents are urged to take simple precautions such as locking vehicles and never leaving keys inside. There have been a series of similar crimes in the area and this is not the first time our midnight officers have dealt with this.
