Norwood Fourth of July events
Bell No. 7 to be dedicated

The theme of this year's festivities will be “Norwood Celebrates America’s 250th Anniversary.”
FOURTH OF JULY CELEBRATION SCHEDULE
1:00 p.m. The Children’s Bicycle, Tricycle, Doll Carriage and Historical Character Parade This event has become a favorite for children and their families. Over 300 children decorate their tricycles, bicycles or doll carriages or come dressed as a historical character, such as Betsy Ross, Abraham Lincoln, etc. The parade, led by The Colonial Boys, begins at the First Congregational Church at the corner of Walpole and Winter Streets and proceeds through town ending at the Town Common. The fee is $1.00. Every participating child will receive a festive t-shirt and participation ribbon. Winners - those judged to have the best decorations on their vehicles or themselves - will be invited to ride in the parade.
2:00 p.m. Norwood Reads Frederick Douglass Together Volunteer readers recite the famous Fourth of July address of orator, statesman, and abolitionist Frederick Douglass “What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?”, in the historic Old Parish Cemetery (rear of 480 Washington St.). Sponsored by the Old Parish Preservation Volunteers.
2:30 p.m. Independence Day Carillon Concert The concert, played from the Town Hall Memorial Tower, features Margaret Angelini of Wellesley College and Norwood’s own Lee Leach. A tour of the magnificent 50-bell Memorial Carillon will take place during the Concert – Come On Up!
4:00 PM - Ribbon cutting ceremony for Norwood’s Historic Washington No. 7 Fire Bell. Join firefighters and the Community Preservation Committee in ringing the fire bell as was the tradition in South Dedham/Norwood to celebrate Independence Day. Washington St. side of Town Hall.
5:00 p.m. Norwood’s Firecracker 5K Road Race Run or watch this unique, fun-filled event prior to the Norwood Parade. You can register on-line here! Whether you are a spectator or a runner, this is a race you will not forget!
5:30 p.m. Eastern Massachusetts Fire Truck Procession, Antique and Classic Cars and Historic Military Reenactors
Followed by the Norwood’s Fourth of July Parade Spectacular Our annual 4th of July Parade has brought so much pleasure to residents of Norwood and surrounding communities for many years. Many bands and entertainment acts continue to return to Norwood every year to be part of the July 4th Celebration. They come because of the tremendous response and enthusiasm of the community. We hope you can join us for a spectacular day!
The parade will begin at the Coakley Middle School at 5:30 pm and will follow its usual route down Washington Street and end at the Town Hall parking lot.
Please note that Nahatan and Washington Streets will be closed at 4:00 pm.

The League of Women Voters of Norwood recently presented Joann Yamoah with the 2026 Margery "Mardie" McKenna Memorial Scholarship. In a presentation held on the morning of Saturday, June 13, Joann was awarded the $1,000 scholarship in recognition of her exceptional commitment to the civic process.

Norfolk County Real Estate Activity Slows in May 2026
Norfolk County Register of Deeds William P. O’Donnell today released the real estate recording statistics for May 2026, which indicate a slowdown in real estate activity across Norfolk County compared to May 2025, with declines seen in several key indicators including sales volume, average sale prices, and mortgage activity.
