MCCORMACK

Robert E., age 81, a lifelong resident of Norwood, passed away in the early morning hours of Sunday, August 9, 2026, surrounded by the love, comfort, and care of his family at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. He was the devoted and beloved husband of 58 years to Elizabeth Anne (Nolan) McCormack, whom he married on October 26, 1968.
Born and raised in Norwood, Robert was the fourth of six children born to the late Joseph and Mary Alice (Monbouquette) McCormack. He graduated from Norwood High School with the Class of 1963; he went on later to further his education by obtaining his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Western New England College.
At the age of 16, Robert lost his father, Captain Joseph McCormack of the Norwood Fire Department, who died in the line of duty. His father's courage and public service was a source of pride throughout Robert's life, which helped inspire him to pursue a career as a first responder.
Following high school, Robert honorably served his country in the United States Army Reserve. In 1968, he joined the Needham Police Department, beginning a distinguished law enforcement career that spanned 35 years. Throughout his service, he was respected for his dedication and professionalism to the community he proudly served.
In his spare time, Robert enjoyed staying active through daily walks and cheering on his favorite Boston sports teams, especially the Red Sox and Patriots. Robert was a Honorary Life Member of the Norwood Elks. He treasured time spent at his home in Dennis Port, where he found peace and happiness walking along the beach and enjoying the beauty of Cape Cod. Known as a true "Mr. Fix-It," Robert had the ability to repair just about anything in caring for his homes and loved lending a helping hand to his neighbors. Above all else, he cherished the time spent with his family and the memories they created together, especially with his beloved grandchildren.
In addition to his loving wife, Elizabeth, Robert is survived by his proud and devoted sons, Kevin McCormack and his wife, Keri, and John McCormack and his wife, Maura. He was the cherished grandfather of Kevin McCormack Jr., Ryan McCormack, Emmett McCormack, and Elle McCormack, each of whom brought him tremendous joy and pride.
Robert will also be fondly remembered by his siblings, Mary Alice McCormack; Joseph McCormack and his wife, Judy; Elizabeth Anne Houghton and her husband, Rob; and Martha Durning and her husband, Billy. He is further survived by his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Pat Mahoney and her husband, Wally; Mary Drobak and her husband, John; and David Gibbons, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.
In addition to his parents, Robert was predeceased by his beloved sister, Patricia Gibbons.
