NPD remembers James Maroney
It is with great sadness that the Norwood Police Department announces the passing of retired Dispatch Supervisor James “Jimmy” Maroney.

Jimmy began his career as a Dispatcher with the Norwood Police Department in 1984. After a brief leave, he returned to Norwood PD, where he would spend the remainder of his career. He later rose to the rank of Dispatch Supervisor, a position he held for the majority of his tenure before retiring in 2023. During his time with the department, Jimmy became instrumental in mentoring new dispatchers and desk officers, sharing both his experience and his steady approach to the job.
Since 1991, Jimmy was often one of the first voices residents heard when calling 9-1-1. His empathy toward callers and colleagues alike set him apart and was deeply appreciated throughout the community. It was not uncommon for residents to request him by name, a testament to the trust and professionalism he consistently demonstrated. His calm demeanor during times of emergency became a hallmark of his career and served him well as he provided critical information to responding officers. He was also known for his sense of humor among members of the department, which will be truly missed.
