Tax Abatement Still Available
Dear Neighbors:
If you own a home near Norwood Gulf, 707 Neponset St., there is still time to apply for a tax reduction by the Feb. 2 deadline. If you believe, as I do, that your property value has been negatively affected by the incessant commercial expansion in our single-family residential zone, then join me and others applying for property tax abatements.
Four expansions and the loss of three green buffer lots since the current owner bought the property in 2013 have reduced neighborhood desirability by undermining perceived tranquility, privacy, and curb appeal, deterring potential buyers seeking quiet residential settings. The new three-bay expansion will add another 75 percent to the building footprint and 150 percent to the station’s repair capacity, bringing a more dominating commercial presence with more traffic, noise, pollution, strewn trash, and parking overflows. The “FY2026 Property Tax Abatement Application” can be found by clicking “Documents” at the Assessors page of the town website (norwoodma.gov). Be sure to read the instructions carefully and file the completed form at the Town Hall Assessors' Office before the close of business on Monday, Feb. 2, 2026.
Although a tax reduction cannot compensate affected homeowners for the negative impact on our quality of life and enjoyment of our homes and properties, it might provide some small consolation. Sincerely,
Brian P. Palmateer
