Thoughts after the “longest” summer

Here are some random questions/thoughts: if you have the answers, please lemme know.

• Why are there no restrooms on the 115-mile drive from Provincetown to Boston, beginning on Route 6 and then continuing on Route 3 (both state roads) and ultimately on I-93 (an interstate)?

• Why is there no recycling at the Cape Cod National Seashore beaches in Eastham and Wellfleet? [Besides reducing landfill needs, the retrieval of deposit cans/bottles by some seniors augmented their income, judging by their bulging bags of recyclables at redemption stores.]

• Why has the National Park Service curtailed many of the ranger-led family activities all along the National Seashore?

• Did the state engineers who work for MassDOT understand the traffic congestion that would result northbound in Eastham and Wellfleet when it okayed the installation of a bike lane versus a second travel-lane for cars?

• If “Suicide Alley” between Route 134 in Dennis and the Orleans Rotary is so dangerous, why aren’t there “Jersey barriers” to prevent head-on collisions on the 13-mile run instead of two pairs of double-yellow lines, a 5-inch berm in the middle, and flimsy reflectors all down the middle of the road?

• If any Martha’s Vineyard resident comments on current morality or the lack thereof, he/she should be reminded of all the pilfering that occurred on that bucolic island – the theft of countless items during the filming of the movie “Jaws” way back in 1974-1975, as revealed years ago by a writer/actor involved with that classic’s production.
