BROE

Mary J. (Cogavin), on August 30, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family.
Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband, John J. Broe, Jr.; her parents, Ellen M. (Mahon) and Thomas F. Cogavin; and her sister, Ellen (Fran) Cogavin.
She was the devoted mother of Maureen (Victor) Dodig, Kerry Broe, and Carole (Timothy) Hurley. Mary was the cherished grandmother of Matthew, Thomas, Erin, Julia, Mary Kate, Nicholas, and Jack. She was the loving sister of Kathy (Mike) Hogan and sister-in-law of Susan (David) Sullivan. She was also a beloved aunt to Michael, Melissa, and Mark Hogan, and Eric and Kevin Morreale, and Jodi Callahan. She was also survived by many cousins.
Mary graduated from St. Peter's School in Dorchester, where she formed friendships that lasted a lifetime. After graduating from St. Patrick’s High School, she attended the St. Elizabeth's School of Nursing in Brighton, where she worked for more than 40 years.
In 1968, Mary and her family moved from Brighton to Norwood, where she became an active member of the community. She volunteered for many years at St. Catherine of Siena Church, attending daily Mass and cherishing the many friendships she developed there. She especially enjoyed meeting friends for breakfast at the Mug & Muffin after Mass.
Mary also loved volunteering at the Norwood Theatre and line dancing with her friends. She was an enthusiastic participant at the Norwood Senior Center, where she particularly enjoyed the Friday lunches and exercise classes.
Mary's greatest gift was friendship. She made a point of staying connected with people throughout her life, and as a result, she was blessed with dear friends from every chapter of it. She was a loyal, caring, and thoughtful friend who touched the lives of many.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers who worked with Mary over the last five years. They especially want to thank the wonderful staff at Orchard Cove for the exceptional care and compassion they provided to Mary. We know they will miss their beloved "supervisor."
