MURPHY

Paul E., 69, a longtime resident of Norwood, passed away peacefully on the morning of Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at the AccentCare Inpatient Hospice Center in Milton, surrounded by the love, comfort, and care of his devoted family following a valiant 10-month battle with an aggressive form of glioblastoma. He was the loving and dedicated husband of Celeste P. (Tedesco) Murphy of Norwood, whom he married on June 24, 1995.

Born in Boston, Paul was one of five children of the late James E. and Anna M. (Russell) Murphy. He was raised in Dorchester, where he served as an altar boy at St. Mark’s Parish on Dorchester Avenue. Throughout his childhood Paul liked spending his time playing Neponset Youth Hockey at and with his brothers and friends at Wainwright Park in Dorchester. Paul graduated from Boston College High School as a member of the Class of 1974, where he played football, hockey, and baseball.

A hardworking man with a great work ethic, Paul began his career at Polaroid before joining Boston Gas, where he would eventually meet his future wife. Through a series of acquisitions, Boston Gas became National Grid, where Paul continued his career most recently as an Inspector. He took great pride in his work and was a respected member of United Steelworkers Local 12003. Paul will be fondly remembered by his colleagues for his kindness, and commitment to a job well done.

In his spare time, Paul enjoyed a wide variety of hobbies and interests. He was a devoted fan of New England sports teams, cheering on the Patriots, Bruins, and Red Sox, while also proudly supporting Notre Dame Fighting Irish football. Paul was a devoted supporter of Norwood athletics and a familiar presence at Mustang sporting events, whether working the chains on the football field or rooting for the Mustangs on the baseball diamond. Paul enjoyed vacations to York Beach Maine, North Conway NH, and Aruba. He enjoyed tinkering with projects around the house and taking walks. Above all else, Paul cherished the time he spent with his family and the countless memories they created together.

In addition to his beloved wife, Celeste, Paul is survived by his proud and cherished children, Devan E. Erker and her husband, Joseph, of Norwood, and his twin sons, Marc P. Murphy, NPD, and Matthew J. Murphy, both of Norwood. He was the treasured brother of Barbara Murphy of Milton, Michael Murphy of Pembroke, and Brian Murphy and his partner, Monique Cascarano, of Abington. He will also be deeply missed by his nieces, Jordan, Julia, and Emma; his nephews, Brendan and Michael; as well as many extended family members and dear friends.

In addition to his parents, Paul was predeceased by his beloved brother, John “Sean” Murphy.

Visitation and funeral services provided by the Kraw-Kornack Funeral Home, 1248 Washington Street, Norwood.

Paul’s Funeral Mass was St. Catherine of Siena Parish, 547 Washington Street, Norwood.

He will be laid to rest in Highland Cemetery in Norwood.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Paul’s care team at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, especially Dr. Ka-Wai G. Ho, for her exceptional care, compassion, and unwavering support throughout his illness.
